A Little Post on Thankfulness

“Give thanks to the God of heaven,

for his steadfast love endures forever."

Psalm 136:26

I am going to be honest with you. It has been a busy season. One of my favorite times of the year is Fall leading up to Thanksgiving. Every November, I set about to write out things I am thankful for, but this year it just didn’t happen. And you know what? That’s okay. Sometimes life gets a little busy.

But as busy as my life may be, I never want to be too busy for thankfulness.

How often do you stop and think about all you are thankful for? I know I don’t do it as often as I should. I don’t want to be the kind of person who forgets to be thankful to the Lord.

In the Gospel of Luke chapter 17, Jesus heals 10 lepers, but only one returns to thank Him.

“Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well” (Luke 17:12-19).

Too often I have been like the nine, but there are blessings in being like the one who chose to return to the Lord to praise and thank Him.

Let's not be like the nine, instead, let's choose to be like the one, praising and thanking Jesus for the blessings He's given us.

Here's a small list of things I'm thanking Jesus for this season:

I am thankful for Jesus and His abounding grace.

I am thankful for my husband and his constant love for me.

I am thankful for our sweet, little love, Abigail.

And I’m thankful for her smiles and joy.

I am thankful for rest.

I am thankful for friends who spur me on to a better relationship with God.

I am thankful for a house that has become a home (and for an attached garage).

I am thankful that the Lord gives wisdom to those who ask.

I am thankful to be walking in the new ministry of motherhood.

I am thankful I get to do life with my husband, Jacob.

Have a very happy Thanksgiving, friends.
