Journey into ministry

Bailey Cornell | Journey into ministry | Psalm 22:22

I have always found it difficult writing about myself. But as a Christian blogger I think it is very important for you to know more than just the fact that I like coffee and comfy sweaters. Let me share a little bit about my ministry of worshipping God through writing and music, and some of the things that brought me to where I am today.

WRITING

I started blogging in July of 2012 with a desire to encourage and lift up other young women in the Lord. As I grow in the Lord, I love to write about what He is teaching me. It is something that I have always been blessed by, and I find that when I go back and read some of those things I had learned through my studies of God's word and life experiences, I am encouraged by it all over again.

It is my desire that you may be blessed by it as well. As Christians, we're all just God's children learning day by day, and we are called to comfort and edify one another.

"Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing," (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

C.S. Lewis also gives a very good explanation as to why we write, and I think it clarifies my purpose very well. Lewis said, "I do not sit down at my desk to put into verse something that is already clear in my mind. If it were clear in my mind, I should have no incentive or need to write about it. We do not write in order to be understood; we write in order to understand."

WORSHIP

I started singing in my youth group worship team when I was in high school, and eventually started leading as well. I feel like my purpose in life is to worship the Lord (I think that may even be biblical?) and one way I love to do that is with music.

I started writing songs shortly after I learned guitar, when I was fifteen, and they were not all about God at first! I wrote a lot of sappy love songs (and I had no boyfriend to be writing about!). But it didn't take long for the Lord to grab hold of my heart and I started writing worship songs. Some of those first one's were just hysterical, I must admit, but I believe Jesus was pleased none-the-less.

WRITING & WORSHIP

After I got married I took a break from both blogging and leading worship for about a year. It wasn't a set choice I made, but something I believe the Lord allowed to happen.

In January 2017, I felt that the Lord was calling me to record the worship songs I had written. I had a conversation with my husband, and we started praying and seeking the Lord in what we should do.

When we made the decision to move forward in recording an album, I thought that I would no longer write a blog. I thought that I could either write a blog or do worship music, but I couldn't do both. But God kept leading me in a different direction.

I switched website hosts for the purpose of allowing my music to be accessible, and this has given me an opportunity to reevaluate my blog. I had the opportunity to pray about my purpose in writing and seek God in how He would want me to move forward. I value God's Word above all, and so something that I will be doing is taking a passage of scripture to meditate on, and really chew like a cow chewing it's cud, and write on what I learn from there.

There is a lot more to it than just that, but I wanted to share a little bit of the story that lead me to where I am today.

Please pray for me as this blog is beginning. Pray that God would be glorified in every part of it. Pray that as I begin to record, that God's name would be lifted high, not only in the result of the recorded album, but in the process of it being created as well.

Please know that I pray for you, any readers, and that my email is available for anyone who is in need of more specific prayer.

"I will declare Your name to My brethren;

In the midst of the assembly I will praise You."
